WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. − In addition to proclaiming National National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week at Tuesday's Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, the board approved a major vehicle purchase.Although West Lafayette mayor John Dennis was out and town, and therefore unable to read the proclamation, City Clerk Sana Booker read the document on his behalf.The Proclamation"...more than 51.4 million Americans can't read or write at the most basic level while 75.1 million lack basic math skills," Booker read, "as well as the credentials and skills necessary to succeed in post-secondary education.
